Treat Green Spot Algae with Potassium Phosphate (Blog Spot #2)

Green Spot Algae is something we all suffer with from time to time, the most important thing with any tank is creating a balance, CO2, lighting, water changes, fertilizers , flow and filtration all play a key part in that balance.
Green spot algae is one of those stubborn algae’s that creeps up on you and bites you on the ass.
A great way to treat it is to use Potassium Phosphate, if you already dose EI fertilizers in your tank then you will already use Potassium Phosphate. If you still get green spot algae then you should try and double the dose, keep dosing for a few week and see if there is any change. If there is no change then try increasing the dosage, you wont cause any harm to your tank so you don’t need to worry about that.
If you use a premixed main stream fertilizer and suffer with green spot algae then I suggest you buy some Potassium Phosphate and dose it along side your regular fertilizer. Simply add 1/4 teaspoon of potassium phosphate directly into your tank every other day and see if there is any change after a few weeks.
Please remember during those few weeks to keep removing any green spot algae you see on your glass.
